Linx Reflux Management System

The Linx Reflux Management System is an innovative new solution in the treatment of acid reflux disease.

The Linx system uses a small magnetic string to reinforce the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus, thereby permitting food to travel downwards into the stomach for digestion, but preventing the backwash of acid and digestive juices that irritate the esophagus.

About the Linx System

The Linx device is made of small titanium beads, each bead with a small magnet at its core.

Together, the beads look like a small bracelet that is designed to fit snugly around the base of the esophagus. The device is put in place in a laparoscopic procedure that typically takes about 20 minutes.

Once in place, the Linx system can begin working immediately to support a healthier lifestyle, allowing patients to follow a healthy diet without the interruption of daily heartburn and acid reflux. In a clinical study, 90% of patients reported improvement of GERD symptoms two years after having the Linx Reflux Management System.  Many people report a positive difference in quality of life within just days following the procedure.

Linx for Acid Reflux Disease

Acid reflux disease occurs as a result of damage to the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus. When there is damage to this valve, the lower esophageal sphincter, it may not sufficiently close after letting food pass downwards. This could permit food particles and digestive juices to backsplash upwards, resulting in severe irritation to the lining of the esophagus.

The Linx System prevents acid reflux and heartburn by reinforcing the lower esophageal sphincter, stopping stomach acid from moving upwards.

This treatment system is an alternative to traditional acid reflux surgery, which would reinforce the lower esophageal sphincter by tightening the surrounding tissue with a series of sutures.

The Linx system eliminates the need for those sutures by inserting a small band of flexible magnetic beads on the outside of the esophagus. The magnetic attraction of the beads helps the sphincter stay closed, thereby preventing acid and other digestive juices from backwashing out of the stomach. When you swallow, the magnets naturally separate to allow food and liquids to pass normally into the stomach for digestion.

The Linx Reflux Management System is recommended for adults over the age of 21 who have been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or who are experiencing chronic and severe acid reflux symptoms at least multiple times a week.
