The Most Important Meal of the Day

Eating healthy is an all-day commitment, but there is something extra important about starting the day off with a healthy breakfast. Often considered the most important meal of the day, breakfast is your chance to re-affirm your commitment to your health and wellness goals and to push yourself one step closer to reaching your weight loss goals. Skipping breakfast or eating something unhealthy for breakfast can start off your day on the wrong foot.

The trick to having a good breakfast every day is having a plan in place before you go to bed the night before. Even after having weight loss surgery, you will need to make the healthy choice when it comes to what’s for breakfast.

The Key to a Healthy Breakfast

We’ve all been in the situation before: you wake up a few minutes late and realize that you are short on time and can’t be late for work. So, what is the first thing that you are going to scratch off your morning to-do list? For some, this might mean putting your hair up or grabbing a hat and crossing your fingers that no one notices that you skipped a shower. But for too many of us, this means skipping the healthy breakfast that you had planned.

Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day, yet a whopping 25% of Americans confess to skipping the meal regularly. Unfortunately, research shows that those who skip breakfast, aren’t really skipping the calories. Attempting to head out without breakfast will typically lead to snacking throughout the morning and higher caloric intake later on in the day.

The healthier thing to do is plan ahead so your breakfast is so quick and easy that skipping it doesn’t make sense. Take a few minutes the night before and get your breakfast items ready. This might mean prepping a bowl next to your oatmeal so you can fix it up in a jiffy, or even making a smoothie the night before so it is in the fridge and ready to go when you are.

Ideally, you want to give yourself enough time in the morning to start the day off in a relaxing and mindful way, but we know that isn’t always the way it works out. Do yourself a favor and at least prepare for the craziness of the morning by getting your breakfast ready the night before. Loading your body with nutrients first thing in the morning is the best way to set yourself up for success throughout the day.
